This year, Summit intensified its efforts to hold unethical lenders and collectors accountable. Our interventions resulted in major victories for consumers:
Purfin Administrators was found to be mismanaging funds, and we successfully terminated 47 payroll deductions — safeguarding R1.7 million.
Steyn Attorneys continued their pattern of inflated legal costs, but our team intervened and saved R411,794 for affected workers.
We also took action against Hannetjie Van Der Merwe for charging unlawful admin fees, resulting in over R319,821 in combined savings.
Our team terminated over 50 illegal emoluments attachment orders issued by Easy Cash and challenged reckless lending practices at Barko Financial Services, securing R116,743 in refunds.
Unlawful loans issued by FJ Financial Services were overturned, writing off R120,000, while interventions against Shackleton Credit Management resulted in R654,155 in prescribed debt savings.
Every case represents a family protected — and a system challenged.
Fight Club – Major Win: SA Taxi Balance Dispute
A client under debt review came to us when her SA Taxi balance barely moved, even after years of paying. Our own calculations showed something wasn’t right, so we opened a balance dispute.
What made this tough:
- The account moved from SA Taxi → MBD → MOBALYZ with almost no feedback.
- Months of delays and being pushed around by their legal team.
What we did:
- DC and Legal/Audit teamed up and pushed this for months.
- Escalated to the National Financial Ombudsman.
- Forced SA Taxi to meet deadlines.
- Secured paid-up letters and wrote off R558,000.
